Latest news June 3, 2006 '' Opening-morning-jitters'' 9.45 It is Saturday June 3 2006. All club members and staff are in full action to make the opening ceremony of the 29th and VERY LAST Fai Multi Class World Championships to an unforgettable one. It all starts at 2 with the FAI flag "flown in" by a parachutist. The Swedish Airsport Federation will have a display of gliders as an SG 38, a Grunau Baby and a Slingsby and I have seen them already now.Beauties!!!
As the Federation was founded in 1966 they celebrate their 40thiest "birthday".
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE FEDERATION!
All gliders will fly too .The SG will be winch- launched!
As you can see I straight away made a picture of the Grunau Baby as it brings back memories of my very short carreer in gliding ,but at least with 2 great solo flights in the BABY.And... with summer canopy, like they have here!!!
The pilot flying it ,is as "vintage" as the glider but sitting in it ,proud and experienced and after his first flight he could only say:" It is soooo cold."But he said it with a big smile.Still "hooked" on gliding, so we all have a few years to go.
The sun is shining nicely , the grass from the field ,400 m wide ,has been mowed yesterday evening and this morning they did the finishing touch .It looks like a golf course and the skies look , as how we want them for the next 2 weeks;Blue, with nice white good looking clouds.
Pierre, one of the tuggies ,just told me he put about 80 pictures on the Photo album [click on Photo album to see them ]on our site. He made impressions from the day yesterday; starting the day, the briefing, the launches and the finishes ,also from the ETA. Enjoy them!!!
12.00 Several vintage power planes fly in ,pots full of flowers and music people have arrived, teams have dressed in their uniforms; yes it is all happening here in Eskilstuna. Also 2 more tugs have arrived and we will fly with 12 or 13 tugs during the comps.
Nobody here in the press centre/chatroom at the moment. Everybody prepares for the opening in their own way. We, staff, all get dressed in our nice -Sweden 2006 out fits-. Thanks!!!I will keep you updated during the day in new articles, so I can put another picture with them. Stay tuned it is Saturday and I hope you all enjoy your day off. We more or less have one too, but I know and saw pilots look at the great looking skies. As I said already and know from experience ,the opening day is mostly a very good flying day, sometimes even the best from the comps .Hope this does n't count for this competition.
12.30 You can't miss the Dutch Team Camp anymore, when you arrive at the field . The highest antenna pole ,surrounded with orange flickering lights, a royal orange crown on top and the Dutch and Heineken flag proudly on it. Have a look, when you are here or look later at the Dutch site for pictures!
