Latest news June 2, 2006 Great practise day! Friday June 2 15.00 Though the good looking ,nice developping clouds in the W. ,disappeared and "lenties " appeared instead , all pilots had no problem to go on track. To the E. we could see high clouds too.
In between, the official clothes for the Comps have been distributed to the organisation and will be worn from tomorrow onwards.
Great to see how everybody helps each other, what ever happens there is somebody to give a hand;it might be another pilot, another crew member or an official!
16.45 Around 4 the first 2 gliders arrived back on the field. German pilots Reinhard Schramme and Gert Peter Lauer arrived back , followed a bit later by 80 from English pilot Andy Davis.More and more are arriving and it is a pleasure to look at it, though the wind is sometimes 30 km/h [plus] and a bit cross. Not so easy, but easy enough for these good and very disciplined pilots. All make nice long landings and move away straight from the strip . If not possible field cars arrive to tow pilot and glider to the side.
You can find later the results from today , as I do not know how many have flown the task, but I presume all!!!
17.30 Still waiting for some gliders to come in. While talking to pilots they did not ALL fly the task." It is PRACTISE ", one said," so I tried out instruments, glider and the area." The other said:"Great conditions but a bit of a late start for 18 m. , so I flew for fun. But it was a very nice flight ."
2 More jury members have arrived; Roland Stuck and Peter Eriksen. The jury is complete now,so are the stewards which have worked already very hard over the last couple of days.
In between lots of pilots download their loggers to send the file to the administration. After that they come in to put a signature in the office that they have send it. Good system, certainly now that laptops can be used again everywhere ,as new antennes have been brought in today. The caravan area had some trouble, but should be perfect now.
18.00 Most standard class pilots , there are 36 entries, flew their task as I heard from Jelmer[ E2 ] who saw about 30 with him . A lot of open class pilots flew their task too. We have 25 gliders in that class.
As said both classes were the first to be launched today!
At 6 several 18 m. and 15 m. pilots are on their way back home, still flying the task.But....it is getting difficult as the wind is still strong and the thermal activity low.We can only wait . I keep you informed in the late Latest News bulletin.Dinner with the Dutch Team tonight.
At 20.00 tonight; first Team Captains meeting.
You can find the first scores already NOW. Straight away when pilots send their files they are entered ,ofcourse provisionelly in the competition computer and you can see them too. Click on Tasks and Results on June 2.Enjoy.CU later.
