Latest news June 14, 2006 Morning, afternoon and...evening Shift! Picture: The German Team behind their beer bar! 19.00 Yesterday a picture from the Dutch team in action, today one from the German Team. A splendid night!! Everybody agreed. As said ALL 300 liters of beer have been "swallowed" , 300 pancakes, made by Remy and Mathijs, are in 300 tummies and all the rest was gone too. That's what is was for! Jeroen had ;lots of success with the 650 bitterballs , all gone too!
Today was a restday and an excellent day for it! No flying was possible and I even found a note on my desk, from the met man that a coldfront was passing this afternoon, with possible wind gusts up to 60 km. /h. I presume some "felt the beer in the knees" as I did this morning.
We had rain all the way from Stockholm ,with bad visibility and a drop of temperature from 29 at noon to 15 in the showers on the way back home at 5.30PM.
I went with Chris and Baer Selen to Stockholm and what an lovely town that is. We were most impressed!!! If I could speak the language , I would n't mind to live in Stockholm. We visited the old town, saw the change of guard at the Royal Palace, with a music band from the Royal Airforce, playing "Happy Birthday" for the King's 60thiest birthday and did a sightseeing tour over the water to see the beautiful old buildings from another side. Lots of musea , but we had no time to visit them. Ofcourse we saw more teams in town, which was nice.
Coming back here at Ekeby airport, the sun was shining, but a pretty gusty wind, though the old Baby and Tiger Moth were still flying. Friends visited the sauna, castles in the area, other towns close by and did some shopping!
I wrote yesterday about Tony Tabart , being the oldest pilot here and flying the 2d 1000 FAI triangle ever. The FIRST ever was flown by Hans Werner Grosse from Nummela in Finland. It was nice to see both men here at the party!! The first ever Swedish 1000 km was flown by Owe Engstrom from the office here, about 15 years later.
Tomorrow briefing at 10.00 again and hopefully we will have 3 more good to very good days. This is very possible according to the different meteo men I spoke too. Let's hope they are right! CU tomorrow for the finish from this comps ;the LAST 3 days. Pilots are ready, some have team meetings at the moment , crews are ready, the organizers are ready and both KG and I are ready to keep the site going. Till tomorrow!Ritz>
