Latest news June 11, 2006 More and more guests arriving!Tasks set! Picture; Finland[Rayskala] greets Sweden [Eskilstuna] No gliding in Rayskala as all pilots are here??? Or??? Good to see you all! 9.00 Briefing delayed to 11. Gridding in progress at runway 23.VERY blue skies and wind from the SW.
Time to inform you about the jury decision regarding the infringement of airspace by pilot Ake Petterson on day 3 of the competion;
I quote a few lines:
"The jury is of the opinion that the main reason for the infringement was the lack of communication within the Swedish Team".
Ake never got any information !!
Quote;"Whereas it is established that the infringement occured because the right information was not provided by the team to the pilot and that no other pilot in the class infringed airspace this day, the protest is rejected."
" However the jury notes that, probably due to time pressure ,the procedures used by the Organizers were not totally appropriate and the information given not fully consistent."
In fact the important additional info was given to one of the Swedish crew members ,who did not pass it on to the pilot.
Well, a bit sad to loose points like this !
Lots of friends from ALL over the world are arriving now. I saw Branco and Brigitte, Kai, Harry and Demo , Elina etc, etc. The real WGC atmosphere is going to a climax now with Saturday as the last day to make your self a "winner" or to look back and see what went wrong or could have gone better. A climax not only for pilots but also for crews and organizers. Everybody worked hard for 2 years and on Saturday night it is over !!! A huge party with 5 chefs cooking steaks, entrecotes or chicken to your liking and...to perfection will be held from 19.00 onwards.Entertainment;Music and film or pictures from the event.
10.15 Back to the comps. Competition day 6.The tasks were just handed over to me; So here they are HOT;
15 m. class; pol.with 3 points;244.8 km.
18 m. class; pol.with 3 points; 217.5 km.
St class ; pol.with 3 points;186.6 km.
open class ; pol.with 3 points; 197.5 km.
A more difficult day at the looks, but briefing will be soon and then you will hear the weather and why we have rather short tasks.Stand by!!
Off to the briefing at 11. vPos in 15 m. class gliders today!
11.20 After a short sponsor message from HEINEKEN, still a football topic, this time involving the Dutch team, we sang for Pierre de Broqueville who has his birthday today. Congratulations Pierre.
The 4 winners came forward and 2 pilots from Denmark could collect their day price. Good on you Denmark!!Then a more serious point.
The midair yesterday 50 km SE at Vangso airport, which is under investigation by Saka.An LS 4 and ASK 21 collided and the LS 4 lost 50 % of his left wing. Flying at 1100 m. and being the only 2 gliders in the air they hit leading edge to leading edge. The ASK 21 landed safely with a damaged wing, the LS 4 pilot bailed out.
Question for ALL pilots?
Do you have to look out better with 116 pilots in the air??
Do you need to look less with only 2?? Think about it, was what Saka said.
Then the weather. We quickly found out why the tasks are short. We have weak thermals in a very short time frame and sea breeze effects from all the lakes in the areas even from the Baltic sea!!!
So with that information, the organizers will look from minute to minute what to do and see if one, or perhaps 2 classes can be launched when it is not possible to send all up in the air. As it looks we keep this weather for the next couple of days with dry thermals and warm air, the other classes might go tomorrow then.
It is 27 dgr. and the visibility still 50 km plus, but...the horizontal visibility is reduced near the inversion.
Yesterday evening it was really COLD. This was , we found out , the seabreeze from the Baltic Sea. Tonight the Israelian team will show , as they call it "a real good video" followed by a presentation of 'The Silent Wings system".Just going out for a minute to feel the nice warm sun. Back with a new article!
First possible launch at 12.30! Most probably later. Stand by! Ritz>
