Latest news June 10, 2006 Evening Shift Picture;Courtesy to Pierre Wolf;"Birds rest in tree"! 22.00 The lecture in the briefing room just finished and both speakers had a very interesting lecture! The first lecture was about how you can safe yourself and your glider under a parachute! About 7 gliders have that system built in already. One of the pilots is Michael Grund. I know that there is a lot to read about this safety issue. And..they are still busy certifying it for other gliders. Worthwhile reading if you do not know about it, but I am sure atleast all glider pilots have heard about it .
And the next one about the safety in the cockpit and how to NOT break your feet, or spine or to get a whiplash. A very enthusiastic English doctor Tony Segal, with help of his wife, asked the guests to look out for loose things in the glider, use the right safety belts and cushions etc.His old fashioned drawings and writing were a pleasure to see in this "windows" world. Prof Boermans said he was very happy with people like Tony as his ideas " had slipped into the hands of the manufacturers" so that cockpits now are already so much safer.
Compliments to both speakers.
Is this picture from Pierre not a nice one? No tricks ,just the bird in the tree and the glider flying on top.
I am sure you have studied all the results, so did I. But still 7 days to go, though most probably one less, as we might need a restday , when we continue with this nice flying weather.
Tired, off to bed now ! Tomorrow will have bleu thermals again ,so another interesting day. More tiring for the pilots ,then for me. Ritz>
