Latest news June 10, 2006 Great finishes on day 5 of this competition! Picture; Little spectator having fun. No clouds at that time! 15.15 We expect the first finishers soon. Stand by! Skies still look great!! 17.00 First glider VP, with Belgium pilot Patrick Stouffs flying in 18 m. class, just announced his arrival! Finally; we had to wait longer then expected! The AAT was 3 hours.
VG [18m.]followed and at this moment 5 others come in. 1 Direct at 05 the rest with speed landings at 23 .
17.30 At 17.20 we had a mass landing of more then 10 gliders. Really amazing to see all the noses/canopies of the gliders full of shiny sunlight arrive at 10 k out. Under them were; Yf,29,YYY,133,U2,WG,WO,EP,BT,71,PL,10,M,SG,AS,LK, TL. I missed perhaps some. One ground loop in the hectic arrival from 3AB who made a direct landing together with XT. Now it is waiting for their distances! I saw 340 km. already with a speed of 106 km/h. in 3 hours 12 and even better a speed of 107.9 over 323.8 km in 2 hours 58.
At 17.45 the first OPEN CLASS gliders came in.First X, HM, then PF and GY,AF and RG.
At 17.55 the first 15 m. class gliders arrive; There are a lot but I saw 5A,BB,OF,C and YX.
18.15 Most gliders are back now. Pilots are still downloading their loggers here. WHAT GREAT FINISHES!!!! I had no time to write!!
In open class one pilot said he nearly came back home after starting his first leg. It was such a struggle in the blue, but when the clouds popped up the "day changed" and also the perspective on the day. In the end he finished happily at Ekeby Airport.
Best "open" pilot till now young Michael Sommer from Germany, who started last and flew the 355 km with a speed of 115.6km/h.
19.00 Great to see that 5A won a day. Only 6 gliders to come home. And it is still possible. Changes in the top from St.class as the number 1 out landed! Look for the results [at the result page] ,in all classes, they are different today!
At 8 another OSTIV lecture this time about recue systems. It is in the briefing hall. If you have time join in!
