Latest news June 7, 2006 Thank you to the Swedish Team! 9.00 A BIG THANK YOU to the Swedish team, who organized a perfect party last night. Lots and lots of guests from all over the world visited and enjoyed eating hamburgers and hotdogs and some even more the cheaper beer, which was still full strenght.
Long rows for beer and food in the beginning, but no worries as everybody was chatting along.
At 11 pm. the die-hards were left over and most pilots had gone to bed!
It is nice warm now outside, just a beautiful morning. We will have launches from runway 23. So not a long walk today, I just have to rush out of the door.
Tasks for today; 3 Classes fly polygons with 4 points including checkpoint Charlie to line them up to finish.Open class has 3 points.
st class.; 185.8 km.
15 m. clsass; 204.3 km.
18 m. class; 207.0 km.
open class; 203.4 km.
Quickly to briefing now.
10.15 Briefing is over!
What happened. First ;
one of the sponsors and pilot in open class [PS] Pierre de Broqueville,[uncle from Arnaud who flies as co-pilot in the ASH 25 GY] has invited all winners in each class to visit as guest from his family the Chateau de Pallanne. This Chateau is surrounded by a great looking golf course and close to the gliding field St Gaudens ,where Robert Pratt runs the soaring school. This field is on the base of the Pyrenees and the family is eager to promote flying in the Pyrenees, as they are thrilled by flying in it, though there is great flat -land- flying too for those who don't like mountain flying. Even wave camps in winter and still possible 600 km. tasks in September when the weather co-operates.
So a room, including breakfast, lunch and dinner and very nice hosts will be yours when you win. Look for more information at www.chateaugolfdepallanne.fr
-- vPos trackers are in open class today
-- there will be lecture in the briefing room at 20.00 ; Subject: "Designing the Concordia".
-- IF there would be no flying today we can listen at 16.00 to Roland Stuck who will talk about Simulator Flying!
BUT ofcourse we hope to fly, so here is what they think about the weather.
The meteo man said that there might be a little window to operate in. At 11.00 we should have cu's but later during the day a front is passing by. However the clouds he expects, might disappear due to the influence of winds coming from Lake Malaren, which is close by. In the evening we can expect some rain. So as Robert said; "we can just hope"! See for weather info also the meteo page.
Ofcourse everybody was interested why it went wrong with the weather yesterday. Not far from here pilots flew 800 km.!!!! Answer from meteorologist Bernt Olofsson, was that ,only a very limited area [about 50 k wide!] had 2 BIG cumulus clouds spreading out and the tops went up too high, causing showers. Some kind of sea breeze was blamed!
All tasks today are to the South and the next couple of days will gradually warm up because of the influence of the High Pressure. With 18 dgr. today it is SOOOO much warmer then before! On Sunday we might have 25 dgr. Jippie. HOPE HOWEVER THAT IT IS GOOD FOR GLIDING TOO. But it does n't look too bad!
11.20 No action on the grid others then pilots "hanging around". Will have a look what's going to happen! Stand by!
