Latest news June 5, 2006 OSTIV Sailplane Development Panel The OSTIV Sailplane Development Panel (SDP) also began it’s meeting. The discussion today dealt with a proposal for changes to the OSTIV Airworthiness Standards (OSTIVAS). To allow for the inclusion of very light sailplanes, as well as those that are heavier than currently covered. This was followed by a presentation of Petr Kousal, Chairman of the Crashworthiness Committee, on a new facility for the testing of the suitability and performance qualities of seat-cushion foams. Next, a discussion of changing the OSTIVAS to allow the 850 kg weight limit on motorgliders to also apply to pure sailplanes. The OSTIV president, Loek Boermans, gave a presentation dealing on an improved stall warning device. This device uses static pressure measurements at two point in the nose to give an angle-of-attack indication that is independent of wing loading and yaw angle. Finally, the future role of SDP´s relationship with EASA was brainstormed.
